5 Fun Activities with Grandkids in Richmond & Fredericksburg, VA

Let’s face it, most of us feel it’s important to live near our children and grandchildren. It takes a village after all, right? Meadow Farm Museum

They’ll never forget the special times they spent exploring with their grandparents!

Henricus Historical Park

A weekend at this historic park will transport you back in time to the 1600s! Witness a re-creation of the journey taken by colonists to settle the new city of Henricus. Interactive events all month long demonstrate how Virginians lived 400 years ago. Kids can fashion a canoe with an oyster shell and pound corn into cornmeal. They’ll be amazed at what they can do!

Washington Heritage Museums

As a native Virginian, war hero, and our nation’s first president, perhaps no one has had more impact on the area than George Washington. In this fascinating series of museums, learn how his family lived and contributed to society in the late 1700s. See the house where Washington’s mother lived and worked in her garden, and the apothecary where doctors prescribed leeches, snakeroot, and crab claws. The little ones are guaranteed to have a belly laugh!

America’s Battleground

History buffs young and old will want to spend hours at the historic battlefields of the Civil War. In fact, it takes two whole days to visit the entire park. Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park offers driving tours, walking trails, literature, films and exhibits that depict the extraordinary events that happened here. Your little scholar will ask to return again and again!
