Congrats to Kathleen, aka Kat, for being nominated Employee of the Month by her peers!  

Kat has been on the construction site at Cornerstone’s Barley Woods community since 2018.  She started as the Assistant Superintendent and became the Construction Manager over a year ago.   Being a female in a male dominated field, has had its challenges for Kat.   Now as you can imagine, she has turned some heads because it’s not every day you see a female working on a construction site.   But Kat’s great attitude, excellent communication and organization skills, and solid experience and knowledge of building homes has cultivated confidence with the purchasers and homebuyers at Barley Woods.

Kat has wanted to build since she was 7 years old.  “When I was in elementary school we had a career day where I dressed up as a carpenter.  That's what I wanted to be when I grew up!” said Kat.  From middle school through high school she participated in over 24 mission trips which involved construction of some sort helping people in need, including Habitat for Humanity projects.   “I grew up helping my Dad put on roofs.  I put my first roof on with my Dad when I was 7!”  

The most rewarding part of her job, Kat said, is getting to know the homeowners and seeing their happiness when they move into their new home and sharing life with their new neighbors. “It’s a close-knit community here at Barley Woods. And they know how to enjoy life and have fun!”

On top of managing the building of homes for active adults in Barley Woods, Kat is also a new Mom.   Lonnie Marie, just 9 months old, keeps Kat and her husband, Jacob, on top of their game!
