Holiday Events Around Your Cornerstone Community

Historical and modern, classic and cool, there’s no better place to explore and relax than right outside of your Cornerstone community in Richmond and Fredericksburg Virginia. With a bustling food and art scene, as well as fun for the whole family, these towns provide perfect opportunities to enjoy yourself, especially around the holidays.

With seasonal activities galore, there’s always something to do, see, and discover just outside of your home. From classic parades and festivals to movie screenings and tours, these charming Virginia towns truly have it all. Take a look at a few of the exciting holiday events coming up before the new year:

Events in Richmond and Ashland

Ice skating.

November 23-January 30: Downtown Ice Skating

If you loved the chilly thrill of ice skating outside as a kid, you’re going to love watching your grandkids experience the magic for themselves. RVA On Ice on North 17th Street is a winter wonderland like no other!

November 29-January 12: GardenFest of Lights

An annual holiday extravaganza with over 1 million twinkling lights, botanical decorations, and more, this year’s theme is Magic in the Air, so expect fireflies, flying pigs, spaceships, and unicorns flying across the garden!

Botanical Gardens.

December 7-21: Light Up the Tracks

Every winter, the historic district in Ashland is transformed into a vintage Christmas village with a mile-long light display and three weeks of events. Come by for a fun Christmas activity or just to see the light-filled spectacle!

December 7: Triple Barrel GBS + Gingerbread Porter Release

Do you love gingerbread and beer? Then you’re going to be a big fan of Hardywood’s new releases, a gingerbread stout and an imperial porter with local white ginger. Enjoy your beer with a side of delicious food!

December 7-8: Fan Holiday House Tour

Take a merry and bright trip back in time and tour some of the area’s oldest (and most charming) homes. Adorned with their holiday best, these unique homes are sure to touch the festive spirit in your heart.

December 8: Court End Christmas/Church Hill Holiday House Tour

Now in its 27th year, this beloved annual event allows patrons to visit ten historical sites free of charge, including St. John’s Church, Monumental Church, and the VA State Capitol. Indulge your inner history buff!

Tacky House.

December 14: CarMax Tacky Light Run

RVA’s biggest fan-favorite tradition is back and better than ever! This 6k course is filled from start to finish with the hilariously tacky, over-the-top lights that you love. Whether you walk or run, this race is a blast for all.

December 14-23: Richmond Ballet’s Nutcracker

What better way to enjoy the days before Christmas than a performance of the Nutcracker? One of the holiday’s most timeless staples, this show is perfect for friends and family members of all ages.

December 24: It’s a Wonderful Life at the Byrd

There’s no time like Christmas Eve to revisit this 1946 classic about a selfless man (played by James Stewart) who gives up everything to help others. Sit back, get cozy, and take in the warmth of the holidays.

Events in Fredericksburg

December 6: Candlelight Open House at the Rising Sun Tavern

From 5:30 to 8 PM, enjoy free admission to the historic and charming Rising Sun Tavern, where there will be tours, seasonal treats and beverages, live vignettes of Tavern life, and festive music from the period.

Holiday Cocktails.

December 6: Holiday Cocktail Class

The only thing more fun during the holidays than a festive cocktail? Making them! Head over to A. Smith Bowman Distillery to prepare and sample four delicious cocktails that complement the holidays perfectly

December 7: Fredericksburg Christmas Parade

We always love beautiful Fredericksburg, but it’s especially wonderful around the holidays! Kick off all of the holiday fun with a vibrant parade, and stop by all of the fun shops and restaurants before and after!

From all of us at Cornerstone Homes, happy holidays!
