Cornerstone Homes Returns to Tidewater/Hampton Roads

For Immediate Release:

Revitalizing Active Adult Community in Smithfield!

Church Square Launching in October

RICHMOND, Virginia (August 19, 2021) – Cornerstone Homes is excited to announce the launch of its newest boutique-style 55+ community, Church Square in Smithfield, Virginia. Sales are scheduled to begin in October 2021 with these first homeowners moving in the first quarter of 2022.

Cornerstone is no stranger to revitalizing existing communities.

Church Square, is an existing community Cornerstone Homes has purchased and plans to revitalize with its award-winning commitment to fostering happier and healthier living for those 55 and better. “Revitalizing communities is something we are experienced in,” noted Roger Glover, principal of Cornerstone Homes. “We had great success turning the distressed 55+ Villas at Magnolia Lakes, Chester and Orchard Villas, Roanoke into thriving neighborhoods making a lasting impact on lifestyle and regaining property value.” Church Square began in 2007 but sales stalled drastically during and after the 2009 recession, and only 44 of the planned 118 homes are completed or near completion. Cornerstone Homes plans to build the remaining homes over a 3-year period.

“It is very exciting to be building in the Smithfield area again, we completed the Villas at Smithfield in 2010 just around the corner from Church Square,” said Glover. “The Hampton Roads region is growing in popularity, especially with the active-adult audience.” Cornerstone Homes has previously built six (6) other boutique active adult communities in the Hampton Roads/Tidewater region. Church Square presents an exciting opportunity to revisit this geographic market with another quick-start boutique community.

Award-winning combination: Community, Home Design and Lifestyle

Cornerstone Homes plans to build single level, low maintenance homes that allow homeowners to tailor each home to their lifestyle. The flexibility and thoughtful design of these homes will simplify everyday living, accommodate life’s changes, and free homeowners to spend more time doing what they love. Cornerstone’s experience in creating award-winning plans is sure to have an impact on the entirely new plans they plan to bring to the Smithfield market. “We do our research and work with leading experts in 55+ living to ensure our plans meet the needs of the active adult demographic,” commented Frank Lackman, President of Cornerstone Homes. Cornerstone’s experience will ensure the new plans for Church Square and the revitalization of amenity spaces make the builder’s re-entry into this market a winning combination.

Connecting with existing homeowners: Town Hall meeting.

Cornerstone Homes recently held a Town Hall meeting for all existing homeowners at Church Square. The well attended community meeting allowed Cornerstone Homes to share their plans with the residents prior to public release and learn more about the needs of the existing residents. “It’s nice to have a developer and builder with a positive attitude who cares about our neighborhood and will make it a place we can be proud to live in,” commented Ginny Soule, a resident of Church Square since 2015. Homeowners were overwhelmingly pleased with the professionalism of the Cornerstone Homes team and their commitment to making Church Square a beautiful, thriving community.

“No other community in the Hampton Roads area will have the inviting feel of Church Square,” Glover notes. “Buyers will enjoy the benefits of being close to everything in the delightful Smithfield area, along with the freedom of the 55+ lifestyle. Freedom to have the time and opportunities to cultivate new friendships and pursue new interests.”
