Add Zing to Your Outdoor Living Space with Container Gardening

Cornerstone Homes have incredible outdoor spaces that bring the outdoors indoors.  It’s the season to add a little zing to your Courtyard, Patio, or porch by adding color with plants.  You’ll enjoy this space even more and what a view you will have from inside your home!

Anyone can master container gardening.  All you need is a few containers, potting soil, and some plants. Maybe a pair of gloves too!  Put some music on and you’ll soon get inspired to dirty your hands and spruce up your courtyard with some container gardens and you’ll enjoy non-stop color all season long.

Easy to maintain and so much fun to experiment with, creating your own container garden is the perfect spring activity to gear up for summer. From bright yellow daffodils to pretty pink peonies and everything in between, colorful springtime flowers are the perfect decor for everything you love to do outdoors.

Bright Ideas

Container gardening is all about growing flowers exclusively in pots and tubs as opposed to the ground, which optimizes space and adds a beautifully clean vibe to any exterior. The best part is that you can get creative with flower arrangements as well as container size, shape, color, and texture.  Grouping your containers in a tight space can help create a homey, mini-garden vibe.  Plus, when next to each other, the colors intensify.  Don’t forget hanging containers.  They are a great way to add beauty in an unexpected way.  Be sure to add some trailing plants like ivy, creeping jenny or my favorite, bacopa,  to add more pizzaz.   Ferns and hostas grow in pots and are great for those shady corners.

Be creative with your pots too.  Colorful, natural, big, small, ceramic, plastic, old metal tubs, wooden barrels, tin cans, baskets, crocks, an old chair,  tea cups for your table…. Whatever the vibe or theme you are going for in your garden, there are endless ideas.

If you’re looking for your first idea or to shake up your current look, there are so many fun examples to get inspired by, including a layered look, an elevated planter with “sweeping” plants, beautiful containers with succulents, and elegant plants put together for a table display. The options to wow are endless!

Connect With Your Neighbors

One of the best parts about living in a Cornerstone Homes community is the chance to grow friendships that last a lifetime. When you move into one of our vibrant and active 55+ communities, it’s guaranteed that your neighbors love to live the way you do, and are so happy to share this journey with you.  Now that your outdoor space is bursting with color, invite your friends and neighbors over to enjoy an outdoor party or dinner.  They will get inspired too!

Gardening Benefits

And let’s not forget, aside from being one of the most relaxing and therapeutic crafts out there, gardening can improve your physical and mental health in several significant ways. Simply just standing outside in the sun helps to boost your bone health and immune system through exposure to vitamin D!

Not only that, gardening strengthens muscles, improves cardiovascular health, and even helps to ease chronic pain. Aside from the physical benefits, gardening is truly good for your soul — it allows you to clear your mind, relax while being present, enjoy the weather, and meet new people that you might not have otherwise met. Just like our Corner Patch Gardens, your own container garden puts positive energy into the air and connects everyone around it.

If you love the sight and smell of beautiful flowers, try your hand at a new project this spring! Whether on your covered patio or in your outdoor courtyard in your Cornerstone Homes community, your very own container garden will show off your unique personality while you’re hosting friends or even just enjoying a book in the afternoon. Plant your seeds and dig into something new!
