Curb Appeal: Preparing Your Home To Sell

Why Curb Appeal Matters

“First impressions are everything, at least when it comes to selling your home,” says Kris Martin, Realtor and team member of Cornerstone’s Concierge Program.   The greatest curb appeal ideas are designed to do one thing:  entice prospective buyers to look inside your home.  Improving curb appeal will help your home sell faster and for more money.

Here are a few of our favorite tips to enhance your home’s curb appeal before you put it on the market. Next thing you know, you’ll be on your way to the carefree lifestyle you deserve and living in a brand new home with all those conveniences and bells and whistles you have always wanted!

Curb Appeal Hot Spots:

Front Entry

Your home’s front entry is the focal point of its curb appeal.  Make a statement by giving your front door a blast of color or add potted plants, a fresh welcome mat, and a sitting area if there's space.  Clean your light fixtures and upgrade your house numbers for a fresh and inviting look.

Lawn & Flower beds

This may go without saying, but caring for your lawn should be one of your biggest (and first) priorities. From mowing the grass to raking leaves to pulling weeds, “grooming” this part of your yard ensures a feeling of a well-kept home that potential homeowners can feel immediately.  Don’t forget to refresh your mulch, and trim your trees and shrubs.

Flowers

What says springtime more than vibrant, colorful flowers? Adding pops of color to your exterior, whether on your porch, on the sides of your walkway, or around your mailbox, creates a sense of warmth and liveliness. In the spring, flowers like yellow daffodils, pink peonies, and white tulips bloom beautifully.

Driveway & Walkway

After years of use, your driveway naturally loses its original spark… The good news is that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get it into tip-top shape — pressure washing your driveway will make it look as good as new without breaking your wallet.

Mailbox

Your mailbox may be one of your favorite staples, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t use a little work. Touch up the post with a fresh coat of paint. All in all, make sure that it looks clean and fresh, and if it’s too worn down, replace it with a new one.

Roof and Gutters

As much as it may feel like a chore, cleaning your roof and gutters will make a world of difference to someone who’s seeing your home for the first time.  But remember, once you are in a new Cornerstone Home, you will never have to do this again!!!

Giving your home a curb appeal boost can be done in just a day or weekend if you plan ahead.   Chances are your home already looks good and it just needs some finishing touches.  Today, about 88 percent of homebuyers start their process online, which means glamour shots of your sparkling home puts you at an advantage to entice buyers to see the real thing!
