Creative and Festive Holiday Decorating Ideas For Your Cornerstone Home

The holidays are meant to be a time to enjoy precious moments spent with family and friends, but all too often we find ourselves rushing to decorate our homes.  Because happy and festive comes naturally in our communities, this year Cornerstone decided to jump start holiday decorating for our homeowners and provide several fun seminars with our Rightsizing and Ethan Allen Interior Design Expert, Angela Davis. “Decorating with Style for the Holidays!”

Angela, like a Christmas Elf at night, came and decorated each Model Home. It was a feast for the eyes.   Angela brought her holiday cheer and decorations  and showed us how to decorate every corner – fireplace mantels, table settings, great rooms, bedrooms, and outdoor spaces. In addition, since we all like to entertain during the Holidays, Angela gave us tips on creating gathering spaces for large crowds in not so large spaces. While each year brings its own traditions, everyone’s decorations can always use a refresh. Whether you keep it neutral or go for major glitz, Angela gave us tips to make sure everyone found something to make their home merry and bright and gorgeous.

So grab you wreaths and get ready for some new ideas for Holiday decorating. Oh and did you know that blue was trending this year?

Holiday Decorating Ideas

Neutral Palates: Of course, nothing makes your spacious great room cozier than a classic tree. This year, switch up your look and go for neutral-colored ornaments like gold, ivory, and champagne to create a calm, peaceful aura that’s just as festive as bold colors. Added touch: choose matching wrapping paper that coordinates with the colors of your ornaments for the gifts underneath your tree!

Lots of Layers: Big pieces of all shapes and sizes make for eye-catching appeal. From a green garland for your mantel in your spacious great room or on your dining room chandelier, to large, seasonal candlesticks for the table in your dining room. Comfy blankets and soft pillows for your sofa. There are so many fun ways to dress up the open areas in your Cornerstone home.

Kitchen Confidential: The heart and soul of the home, don’t forget to give your kitchen some decorating love. If you already incorporate holiday-themed utensils and bowls (think pine cones, dried fruit, etc.), try a mini wreath too! Not just for your door, you can fasten wreaths to your kitchen cabinets for a beautiful look. Centerpieces also aren’t just for the table, try adding a lovely spruce or candle centerpiece to your large kitchen island.  Or a bowl full of colorful or neutral gold/silver ornaments.

Dining Room Table: Set your table with your holiday dishes. Use fruit and food as table arrangements; figs, pomegranates. Flowers – Red Roses, paper whites and amaryllis either live or artificial – easily obtained without breaking the bank and offer a nice holiday spirit. Lots of greenery too!

Your Private Sanctuary: Your Cornerstone Owner’s Suite is your sanctuary to relax, so why not add some holiday happiness into the mix? A miniature tree for your bedside table is a great way to bring an appealing accent into your room without overwhelming the space. Try a white frosted tree for something simple and elegant.

Outside Living Spaces: Outdoor decor isn’t limited to classic wreaths and cozy lights… there are so many fun and unique ways to touch up your exterior space! In your private outdoor courtyard, drape a cozy, plaid blanket over a couch or chair. Add a real tree and light it up at night!   Will your grandchildren be visiting? Place a “letters to santa” mailbox outside your front door.

Love at First Sight: Feel the magic before you walk into your home. Your entry way gives your family and friends something special to look at upon entering. Pops of bright red add a classic holiday touch! Creative wreaths, garland, lights, and doormats all start the Holiday Cheer.

What a fun day the homeowners had at this event.   I think we heard some partying planning going on between neighbors!
