Adding Character to Your Home with Trim Details
Cornerstone homes are known for including nice, upscale trim in their homes. And the interior trim you choose is as personal as your individual taste. Lori Melton, Cornerstone’s design consultant works with each homeowner to choose selections for their new homes and offers her expert advice for design details. She recently said, “ A lot of our homeowners wanted to add just a little extra pizazz to certain rooms. I love working with them to add these fun extras.” Here are a few examples of trim our very own homeowners have included in their new homes.
Bead Board Detail
At The Grove at Lucks Lane, the Miller’s chose to add bead board paneling to the kitchen island that matches the color of their cabinets. Bead board paneling is great to add in hallways, pantries, or anywhere walls can get damaged. It protects the wall and looks great.
Barn Doors
Chickahominy Falls homeowners, Rich and Roberta added an attractive barn door in the Owner’s bedroom going into the bathroom. This popular trend not only adds so much character but takes up less space than traditional doors.
Ceiling and Wall Trim
Don’t forget to look up at the ceiling detail in a tray ceiling for that extra punch.
Wall trim details bring dimension and lasting value to plain walls for a total custom look. Paint or use old repurposed wood for a totally different look.
Wall Frame and Wainscoting
On the kitchen island and in a stairway, the wall frame gives the illusion of wood paneling and started when plaster walls came into vogue. This will spice up a plain space and make it look like custom carpentry.
Drop Zone
This added feature to your mudroom as you come in from your garage will keep you neat and organized.
One of the most important rules of thumb is to keep the style of your trim consistent with your home style and from room to room, says Lori. Your new home is your castle, and all these features, and many more, can make your personal style shine. Get inspired and let your creative juices flow. Lori is here to help you make your choices and design the home of your dreams!
