Housing Options for Seniors are Changing as Baby Boomers Get Older
The Baby Boomers continue to influence post-retirement housing options, reshaping the active lifestyle landscape for builders and home buyers alike.
A recent article in BOOMER magazine offered a comprehensive overview of the housing options that are available for the 55 and up market, from age-restricted communities to assisted living facilities, co-housing to aging-in-place. Cornerstone Homes’ very own Roger Glover talked about how our communities have adapted to the preferences of our residents, including offering smaller plans, more opportunity for social connections, and more physical activity.
The article also delves a bit into how communities at large (towns, cities) are offering supportive services like transportation, health care and accessibility to enable seniors to stay safely in their current homes yet not feel isolated. Retro-fitting homes via Universal Design is also discussed.
It’s an interesting look at how our approach to aging has changed in the past few decades. No longer does Grandma live in a nursing home. Today, she’s living it up in an active living community!
