Get Social and Stimulate Your Mind with Mahjong and Bridge
At Cornerstone Homes, we place great emphasis on the health and wellbeing of our residents. Health comes in many forms — physical, emotional, and mental — and we are committed to helping you preserve and strengthen all of them! That's why we're excited to introduce you to two social clubs that will keep you social, engaged, and stimulated. Say hello to the games of mahjong and bridge!
Mahjong
What It Is
This tile game originated in China 300 years ago and has gained popularity in the West over the last 100 years or so. Four players are dealt 13 tiles each from a deck of 144 tiles of different symbols and characters (similar to the rules of Poker). You win by forming four suites and a pair through a process of discarding cards and pulling from the deck.
Why People Like It
Above all else, mahjong is a social game, mentally stimulating, and hugely entertaining. Studies have shown that it helps players to relax by relieving stress, and it’s also great for community-building since it requires cooperation and strategy between players.

Bridge
What It Is
This popular card game is played with a standard deck of cards with four players divided into two teams. Each player is dealt 13 cards, and players use a system of bidding, tricks, and trumps to win as many games as possible to score 100.
Why People Like It
Bridge is called "the game for a lifetime" because you can never master it; it's a game of constant learning. Fast-moving and stimulating, there are more than 750 trillion possible hands, and each hand takes 5-10 minutes to play. The game employs both sides of the brain, improving logic, math, memory, visualization, and psychology each time you play. Like mahjong, it is a social game that requires communication, trust, cooperation, and patience with a partner to win.
