The Virginia Is For Lovers travel blog has named Fredericksburg a top Christmas destination in the commonwealth.
The “Virginia’s Favorite Christmas Towns” list was published on the website earlier this month and also features Culpeper and Warrenton. It was compiled by recommendations from readers.
“Downtown Fredericksburg in December is a classic holiday destination,” the blog noted. “The shop windows, the lights, the Virginia hospitality, the centuries of history—it all combines in a magical experience for all ages!”
Local hotels The Richard Johnston Inn and the downtown Courtyard by Marriott were cited as the best places to stay, while Bistro Bethem and Poppy Hill Tuscan Kitchen were picked as the top restaurants to check out locally.
The Old Town Jingle Bell Carriage Rides and New Year’s at the Olde Silk Mill were mentioned for people looking for holiday events.
Culpeper was picked for its “nostalgic feel.” The blog recommended the Thyme Inn and Suites at 249 as best places to stay there, and It’s About Thyme and Copper Fish as restaurants to try.
Holiday performances at The State Theatre of Culpeper and Stillhouse Distillery at Belmont Farm were chosen as Culpeper attractions that shouldn’t be missed.
Warrenton was chosen for its small-town feel. The Black Horse Inn and Holiday Inn Express were listed as places for visitors to stay, McMahon’s Irish Pub & Restaurant and the Red Truck Bakery as top spots to eat and the Fauquier County Wine Trail as a place to visit.
