Mitchell Bode Crescent Group Cornerstone Homes On December 6th, the Home Building Association of Richmond (HBAR) held its annual President’s Dinner at the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, where one of our very own was honored for his incredible work. With 350 homebuilders, developers, trade partners, and real estate professionals in attendance, we were proud to watch as Mitchell Bode, Vice President of The Crescent Group , the preferred Developer for Cornerstone Homes, was awarded the Guy B. Hazelgrove, Jr. Membership Development Award for his contributions to the industry.

Established in 1994 to honor Guy Hazelgrove, who earned 530 spike credits over 43 years of membership with HBAR, this prestigious award is given to those who demonstrate an exceptional contribution to membership recruitment and retention, as well as to the strength of the association overall. Dedicated, thoughtful, and passionate about his work, it’s no wonder that Mitchell received this year’s honor.

Because of the countless hours that Mitchell has put into HBAR’s legislative advancement, along with his top-of-the-line recruitment efforts, HBAR’s political action committee is now the largest HBA PAC in the state of Virginia. Through the positive results of his hard work, Mitchell sets a strong example for his fellow members and inspires others to continuously reach higher.

On top of the work that he does for the association, Mitchell serves on the Board of Directors, is a member of the Executive Committee as Vice President of HBAR, and holds the position of Legislative Committee Chairman. Housing Options for Seniors are Changing as Baby Boomers Get Older

Categories: News & Events | Posted: December 18, 2017

New Home 55+

The Baby Boomers continue to influence post-retirement housing options, reshaping the active lifestyle landscape for builders and home buyers alike.

A recent article in BOOMER magazine offered a comprehensive overview of the housing options that are available for the 55 and up market, from age-restricted communities to assisted living facilities, co-housing to aging-in-place. Cornerstone Homes’ very own Roger Glover talked about how our communities have adapted to the preferences of our residents, including offering smaller plans, more opportunity for social connections, and more physical activity.

The article also delves a bit into how communities at large (towns, cities) are offering supportive services like transportation, health care and accessibility to enable seniors to stay safely in their current homes yet not feel isolated. Retro-fitting homes via Universal Design is also discussed.

It’s an interesting look at how our approach to aging has changed in the past few decades. No longer does Grandma live in a nursing home. Today, she’s living it up in an active living community!

Farm-based Community Breaking Ground in Hanover

Categories: News & Events | Posted: November 10, 2017

While 55-plus communities aren’t a new concept, their designs are becoming increasingly inventive. For example, developers are placing more emphasis on healthy living and nature. They are adding more and better amenities – even incorporating features such as a working farm into the community!

A recent article in the Richmond Times-Dispatch discussed the latest developments in Cornerstone Homes’ Chickahominy Falls community in western Hanover, VA. This unique neighborhood will include a working farm, as well as community gardens, orchards, riverside trails and more. Everything will be woven together to celebrate healthy living, sustainability, and a deeper connection to the land.

The 180-acre community backs up to the Chickahominy River off Cedar Lane and Holly Hill Road, and will feature 300 to 400 homes for people 55 and older, and an adjacent neighborhood of 30 homes with no age restrictions. Site work has begun, and the first homes are expected to be ready at the end of 2018.

The farm will sit on 10 acres and be managed by a professional farmer. The farm operation will be a long-term, sustainable operation that will complement Hanover’s history as a farming community. It will be an asset for the community, with produce sold at a farmers market and/or to local restaurants with space available for special events.

Baby Boomers fueling Real Estate Boom in Chesterfield!

Ashlake Clubhouse

The future Clubhouse coming to The Villas at Ashlake!

It’s no secret that the Baby Boomers have been influencing trends for decades. What’s interesting now is that they’re reshaping entire communities as they retire!

A recent article in the Chesterfield Observer tracked how the wave of 55 and up homebuyers is reconfiguring local suburbs, from the arrival of active adult communities – like Cornerstone’s Villas at Ashlake – to the construction of outpatient health centers and shopping centers. What’s fueling this building boom? Now that Boomers are recouping their losses from the recession, they are able to tap into the equity in their larger homes and can afford to buy new low-maintenance homes in communities such as Villas at Ashlake. Developers are building homes – and doctor’s offices and retail outlets – as fast as they can to keep up with demand. In some cases, they are creating “mixed-use” projects, combining housing with offices and shops, to appeal to seniors al as millennials.

It’s a thought-provoking look at how Baby Boomers continue to wield influence – and change lifestyles – even in heir golden years!
